PASSIONATE Queanbeyan
trainer Garry Clarke will
enter his mare Bossy
Matilda into this year's
Queanbeyan Cup with one
piece of advice for punters:
''She'll win if she wants
to.''
Bossy Matilda has raced
eight times since February
in preparation for this race,
and Clarke said his temperamental
seven-year-old
would be tough to beat - if
she is in a good mood.
''It's up to her, she'll turn
it on and be a handful if she
wants to but then sometimes
she's good, she runs
the show,'' he said.
''She's as much chance as
any of them on the day,
she's beaten most of the
field.''
The mare finished fourth
last Friday in Canberra over
2000 metres after throwing
jockey Adrian Layt off her
back prior to the race. She
won her last start in Queanbeyan,
also over 2000
metres.
Jockey Brad Clarke rode
her to the win that day in
Queanbeyan and he will
ride Bossy Matilda again on
Sunday at what is the
mare's favourite track,
according to trainer Garry
Clarke.
''At Queanbeyan it's a
different story, she's a lot
better horse at home here
and she likes this track,'' he
said. Clarke was heavily
involved in preparing last
year's Queanbeyan Cup
winner Monga Mist, who
was trained by his cousin
Richard Clarke.
Monga Mist had spent a
lot of time in Garry Clarke's
stables before moving
across to work with his
cousin in Braidwood.
''My cousin owned her
[Monga Mist] and he
decided that he'd get his
trainer's license,'' Clarke
said.
''I had her in here for a
couple of preprations and
he had a for a preparation
and set her up for the cup,
and he won it.''
