QUEANBEYAN Blues junior Cy
Lasscock is set to make his first
grade NRL debut on Monday night
for the Canberra Raiders when
they host South Sydney.
Lasscock has been named on a
five-man bench after a strong
showing for Canberra's feeder club
Souths Logan this year in the
Queensland Cup.
The 22-year-old prop said his
selection came as a shock.
''I'm over the moon, I didn't
expect it,'' he said.
''I've been putting everything
into the training sessions we've
had this year, it was definitely a
goal of mine to work my way into
first grade this year.''
A decision on whether Lasscock
plays will be made prior to kick-off
on Monday night with the fitness
of Neville Costigan still in doubt as
he looks to return from injury.
If the Queanbeyan front-rower
works out for the Green Machine,
he will join former Blues players
Terry Campese and Trevor Thurling.
''They both came up and
congratulated me once the side
was announced, I've played a fair
bit of footy with them in Premier
League and I'm looking forward to
it,'' Lasscock said.
''I've been playing some good
footy for Souths Logan so I think
I'm ready for it.
''It's been difficult [playing in
Queensland], you get sick of flying
after a while, but it's not so bad
once you're up there, the people
up there are really good.''
Lasscock started with the
Raiders in it's under 16s Harold
Matthews team.
Monday night's game is an
important contest for Canberra,
who have lost their last three
games and slipped to 13th on the
NRL ladder.
